7-to-9.com Review

Posted by Team UT on June 29th, 2009   Interactive, Sports Marketing

Even before working with Duke Basketball on their dedicated program site, we’ve had an interest in what colleges do online – way back to 2001 when Oregon missed out on their NYC Heisman billboard promo for Joey Harrington by not doing a JoeyHeisman.com mini-site.

A couple of the guys are big Illinois fans, and recently came across a promotional site for QB Juice Williams and WR Arrelious Benn: www.7-to-9.com . The general idea seems sounds as they should be one of the best offensive combos in the country this year, but we’re hoping it will continue to be improved.

The site is pretty limited on content: Bio, Videos, Photos. It will be interesting to see if during the season if any content will be added to make the site worth visiting more than once:

-Blog: on the player’s status (taking off of “The Journey” program that followed the Illini during last season) – the blog could provide a behind the scenes look following this duo throughout the season – and could be handled by a member of the program vs. requiring the players.  Another model for this could be the USC football blog by Ben Malcolmson (http://usctrojans.cstv.com/blog/).

-Stats: providing a game schedule and overview of how each player does and comparison stats where they rank vs. other QB’s and WR’s in the B10 and Nationally.

-News: Game recaps, linked articles appearing online about either…

-Twitter: Along the lines of the blog idea, could be a Twitter account setup and run by a member of the program to provide updates on the duo throughout the season, and also highlight any promos the Ticket office or Promotions office at ILL is running.

-Video/Photos: Going to assume they’ll do this, but again should list out a schedule and provide links to updated game photos/video from the 2009 season.

Finally, you need to promote it. You can’t find any mention of the site on CoachRonZook.com or the FightingIllini.com.
