It’s been quite an impressive month for Nike Golf with Major wins by Lucas Glover (US Open) and Stewart Cink (British Open), and they’ve done a pretty good job promoting their brand and golfer lineup on their Twitter account @NikeGolf, but they’re also missing an opportunity with their background.
We wrote about this back in May (Twitter Backgrounds – Advertising Billboards) how brands should use their Twitter background space as an advertising billboard. Nike Golf had a great opportunity to help tell their ongoing brand storyline through the background space – Glover with the US Open trophy for a month, then replaced by Cink with the Claret Jug today.
Instead of a middle ‘driver club head’ image which gets covered by the content area – the use of properly placed imagery could have added a powerful impression to their page. They could have even used Tiger and the AT&T National trophy in between the two Major wins for further brand testament.
