Exclusive Interview w/ Scott Dixon

Posted by Team UT on October 9th, 2009   Sports Marketing, UnCommon News

We recently had a chance to talk with Scott Dixon in an exclusive interview leading up to Saturday night’s final race of the season in Miami, where Scott will go for back-to-back IndyCar Championships.

UT: How big of a surprise was it seeing Briscoe finish in 18th at the end of the Motegi Race?
SD: Well, first of all you kind of feel bad for the guy… But what can you say that was exactly what we needed to make a real run for the championship. Homestead is going to be crazy!

UT: Off racing for a second – how are Emma and Poppy doing?
SD: Em and Poppy are doing great. I didn’t see them for almost 2 weeks while I did the Japan race and Petit Le man. Its so amazing how quick they change! Emma is super Mum!

UT: How has being married and having a new baby changed your racing?
SD: I don’t think at all. It’s great to have a family to celebrate with after and share the memories. I have to provide for a family now so it gives me great motivation for prize money haha

UT: Any news on re-signing with CGR to report?
SD: I think all is good and it looks like we will have the deal signed any day. Love driving for this team we have accomplished a lot together and I think we can have many more years doing the same.

UT: Your teammate Dario is in 2nd only 5pts behind – how has it been racing w/ him this season?
SD: Dario has been great. We work really well together and its been like that straight out of the box. If I can’t win the Championship I sure hope he does!

UT: How exciting is it knowing it all comes down to this one last race for a chance to repeat as IndyCar champ?
SD: Well, exciting for the fans I guess. This will be the toughest race of the season for the three of us still in it. I would rather be coming into this last weekend with a 54 point lead but that’s not the case.

UT: You have two wins (08, 03) and two top-5’s in 6 races at Homestead – feel good going into this final race?
SD: I’m not exactly sure on the stats I just know that we have won there twice and three times sounds even better just hope we have a little luck on our side.

UT: You passed Sam Hornish Jr. for most Indycar wins (21) this yr, & you can tie him for most titles (3) on the 10th = best of all time in Indycar?
SD: Yeah that will be very cool. Just a shame that Sam isn’t still here to try and make that record a little tougher. We will be doing all that we can just hope its enough…

UT: Any predictions for Homestead you’d like to share?
SD: I think its going to be a one two for Ganassi at Homestead!
