With the season over, according to media reports this is the week where up to 1,000 jobs will be cut and numerous teams will shut down in the NASCAR garages. Throughout this last quarter of the season there have been rampant rumors about what is happening with Ford, Chevy, and Dodge teams – but what we haven’t heard about is what is going to happen with Toyota’s teams. Why – because nothing is going to happen to them, they’ll all have full manufacturer support in 2009.
The writing is on the wall that Dodge will probably be out after the 2009 season if things continue on as they are. Penske and Gillette/Evernham are the only two teams left, and word is G/E wanted to move to Toyota next year, but NASCAR blocked it. GM just put out this call for help from fans at Homestead this weekend about the upcoming Congressional meetings on bailout money help.
What we haven’t heard of – and probably because the diehard NASCAR fans, loyal media, and France family cringes at the thought – is the possibility of a one manufacturer sport in 2010, with Toyota being that one manufacturer.
